During our conversation, it became apparent that Aaron is passionate about making time for important projects, having confidence in his work, prioritizing time management, and planning self-care. We discussed creating community, the chemistry between new and old contacts, come-as-you-are drum circles, interactive art, and what makes live performances memorable.
Topics that we discussed included his early career, his time in Nashville, and how he got involved with the Arlington Museum of Art (AMA). Aside from his career, it was refreshing to hear his thoughts on different topics like identifying burnout, valuing time, humility with egos, drawing inspiration from the community, and working efficiently.
A visit up at Fielder Park makes for a very special day no matter what the weather entails. There’s something for everyone from adults to families to sports teams to dogs. The invitation is wide open for those seeking a local adventure in such an easy-going park. I believe bringing water and snacks to share, comfortable footwear, and an entire party of loved ones would make for an unforgettable time up at Fielder Park.
I felt – and feel – inspired by this unexpected discovery on my adventure. It reminded me to keep having faith in the process ahead and continue practicing patience. I believe magic really exists. It doesn’t usually jump out when you’re looking for it, but instead it presents itself if you’re willing to stick it out and keep an open mind. As for the fake Crystal Canyon my friends and I frequented – I still haven’t figured out its true name. Perhaps someday soon, I’ll get a chance to return and find out.
I had a rush of nostalgia as I pulled off of Smith Barry Road into the northern parking lot of Bicentennial Park for the first time in close to a decade. I would come here a lot as a child with family and again as a teenager where my friends and I would get into all sorts of mischief. As I was putting on my sun-screen, I noticed the UV index was at 11 and made sure to put on an extra layer so I wouldn’t inadvertently become a lizard person while trying to enjoy some laps around the park. I put on my sunglasses, headphones, drank plenty of water, and I was ready to go.
There’s many things that make a walk memorable, but there’s three that I’ve come to appreciate. Fresh air. Ease of access. Intimacy. I found a park in my neighborhood recently that colored me impressed. After a Google search for “parks nearby” and sorting through options, I came across a no-nonsense park enveloped within the confines of a quiet neighborhood. There’s a sidewalk trail that borders a small field, a playground, and outdoor workout equipment. Pirie Park - just northwest of Downtown Arlington is a local treasure just small enough to be hidden from the hustle and bustle of the city, but big enough to leave a heartfelt impact on my day.
